Nestled on the shores of Cazenovia Lake is the town of Cazenovia, NY. Before Halloween, my boyfriend and I took a little road trip to Critz Farms in Cazenovia, NY. Founded in 1793 by John Lincklaen, who built the Lorenzo mansion at the south end of the lake (which I still have yet to see,) the village still teems with history. A walk down Albany Street reveals the village’s historic architecture. You really don’t have to go far to see the town’s beauty. What makes me really happy is the fact that the resident’s clearly never neglected any of the buildings or historic homes. Each structure is beautifully restored and updated to keep the original beauty of each one.
Neither of us had ever been to Critz Farms, but we were excited since the town of Cazenovia is so beautiful and historic. My mother’s family actually originated from there, and owned land that covered most of the town; so much so that Sweetland St. is named after her family! We arrived at Critz Farms to see that the whole place was swarming with people. It was so nice to see others enjoying a local landmark!
Critz Farms is a great destination for people of all ages. They had tractor rides out to the fields to pick pumpkins, a kiddie corral, petting zoo, live music, a café, a large gift shop located in a barn, a corn maze, and hard cider tastings for the adults! We did it all (minus the kid stuff, of course,) and had such a fun day! We tasted some cider ($4 for each person, which includes 5 different hard cider tastings of your choice,) took the tractor out to the field to pick our winning pumpkins, weighed them in the barn/gift shop, and headed out towards the corn maze.
Overall, we had a great day in Cazenovia and I can’t wait to go back in the summer to see the Lorenzo mansion and hang out on the lake! We’ll probably head back to Critz Farms since they also offer the option to cut down your own Christmas tree in the winter! I can’t wait to see what they offer in the summer 🙂
